David X. Sullivan says ‘Play Ball’ for High School Football
“As a society, we have taken extraordinary precautions to protect everyone in our nation from the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said David X. Sullivan, the Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 5th District.
“I believe we should continue to take extraordinary precautions for those who are most at risk from this disease. These include the elderly, those whose health is compromised, and those whose age or health puts them most at risk of serious illness due to COVID-19.”
“But for the majority of our state and people, we should adopt more modest but still sensible precautions. These can include frequent and regular temperature checks, facial coverings, and social distancing. Prompt adjustments will be required if community conditions change and more stringent restrictions are required.”
“I believe we should begin re-opening social activities, like high school sports including football, while we continue to utilize sensible precautions.
“I do not think it is possible to stall our economy and our society forever while we await both a vaccine and an assured remedy for COVID-19.
“My heart goes out to the many thousands and their families who have been impacted, suffered or died as a result of COVID-19. We are forever indebted to the First Responders, health care professionals, and all who worked so the rest of us could remain safe.”
“We do not live in a completely riskless society. We have no guarantee that a safe and effective vaccine will be developed and distributed quickly. Anyone who remains concerned can make the personal choice to step back and continue to isolate.”
“I believe we should try to return to normal while exercising sensible precautions. That means we should try to ‘Play Ball’ until conditions suggest that we shouldn’t.”
